Mexico’s fourth round of trade talks with the United States will not happen next week and may be held in October, deputy economy minister Luis Rosendo Gutierrez said, citing scheduling conflicts including Chinese President Xi Jinping’s U.S. visit and the G20 summit.
Gutierrez said technical coordination with the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office continues daily despite the pause in formal rounds. The talks seek an interim deal that could ease some U.S. tariffs on Mexico while addressing U.S. demands on automotive content and Chinese investment. Mexico’s stated priority is reducing Section 232 tariffs on steel, aluminum and automobiles; the agenda has grown from 54 issues to nearly 90, including digital-platform regulation.
