Minnesota Lt. Gov. and Senate candidate Peggy Flanagan is set to attend an Oct. 1 fundraiser co-hosted by Medicaid Medical Director Nathan Chomilo, in office since January 2020. Republicans criticized the event amid the state's Medicaid fraud scandal.
The fraud cases described in the report involved Medicaid-funded autism services and Housing Stabilization Services. Chomilo was not responsible for processing payments, investigating fraud or overseeing program-integrity operations. Republican state Rep. Kristin Robbins nevertheless said he must have known about the fraud and had oversight responsibilities.
In August, Flanagan said she was appalled by the fraud, citing a newly created inspector general's office, added staff in the attorney general's office and the shutdown of a program she said criminals had used. She said more needed to be done. Fox News Digital reported that it sought comment from Flanagan's campaign and Chomilo's office.
