Mustafa Iqbal, Mohamed Usman Arshad, Ziaullah Badshah, Jaswinder Singh and Sarah Gray were jailed for sexually exploiting three girls aged 14–16 in Rhyl, north Wales. Iqbal received 35 years; Arshad 19, Badshah 17, and Singh and Gray eight years each.
At trial, jurors heard the men met at a Rhyl coffee house and approached the girls in the street; the girls were given cannabis and asked to play “spin the bottle” before being abused. Iqbal was convicted of 21 offences, including four rapes and three sexual assaults involving all three girls. Arshad was found guilty of rape. Gray was convicted of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender after helping Iqbal try to cover up rapes of the 16-year-old at her home. The four men must remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
A North Wales Safeguarding Board review is due to examine how the gang operated and the police response. Police began an initial investigation in 2022 but decided not to proceed; the inquiry was reopened after Iqbal raped a third victim, leading to the gang’s arrests in coordinated Rhyl raids in August 2025.
