Serving officer arrested over suspected sexual communication with a child

Durham Police said a 31-year-old serving officer was arrested in the early hours of Friday on suspicion of sexual communication with a child and misconduct in public office. The officer remains in police custody and was immediately suspended pending a criminal investigation.

The BBC understands the officer was off duty when arrested and was taken into custody in a different police force area.
