Five former Blue Jays—John McDonald, Jim Acker, Paul Spoljaric, Kevin Millar and Moisés Sierra—are celebrating birthdays today, turning 52, 68, 56, 55 and 38, respectively. McDonald is a roving coach for the Cleveland Guardians.
McDonald played 16 major-league seasons, including seven with Toronto, despite a .233/.273/.323 career batting line. Brian Butterfield praised his defense, positioning and work ethic, calling him the best defensive player he had worked with.
Jim Acker spent seven of his 10 major-league seasons with Toronto and posted a 1.42 ERA over 6⅓ innings in the 1989 ALCS. Paul Spoljaric played four seasons for the Jays; Toronto traded him and Mike Timlin to Seattle for José Cruz Jr. in 1997. Kevin Millar's 12-year career included a 2004 World Series title with Boston, and his final major-league season was in Toronto. Moisés Sierra played 97 games for the Jays over three seasons before Toronto lost him on waivers to the White Sox.
