Stockholm police have opened preliminary investigations into five complaints of possible election fraud after Sweden’s September 13 parliamentary vote. One concerns the Jarva suburb, and two include potential vote-buying complaints; any effect on local results remains unclear.
Separately, prosecutors are investigating possible fraud in Borlange. A rerun could put 11 parliamentary seats in play if the Election Review Board orders one. Prosecutors said Thursday that no indictments had been issued and no suspects had been formally identified in that case.
The opposition narrowly defeated Sweden’s incumbent right-wing government in the election, which was widely seen as a referendum on whether the far-right Sweden Democrats should join the next administration.
