Slovak PM Robert Fico said infighting in SNS could cost his government its three-seat majority. SNS leader Andrej Danko wants Environment Minister Tomas Taraba replaced; Taraba has hinted he may form a new group with other government deputies if he leaves the cabinet.
Fico said he would withdraw his proposal to dismiss Taraba, filed with the president, if there is no agreement within SNS. He urged Danko and Taraba to guarantee that they would maintain the parliamentary majority.
The dispute could bring down the government. It could also bring forward an election if a parliamentary supermajority agrees. Polls show the ruling parties may lose power, but the result is uncertain because many parties are near the threshold to enter parliament.
