CNN reporter Kristen Holmes said U.S. networks would resume pool coverage of President Donald Trump’s events Friday: CNN will cover his National Archives tour with Chinese President Xi Jinping, while CBS is scheduled to provide White House footage.
Trump barred CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House complex last week over coverage he asserted was false or negative. On Thursday, a federal judge deemed the ban likely unconstitutional and ordered access restored immediately; the First Amendment case is continuing in court.
The White House television press pool had signaled it would not resume coverage until CNN was formally reinstated, in solidarity with the network. CNN, ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC share costs and rotate presidential coverage; the pool’s refusal to set up cameras meant there had been no pool footage of Xi’s Washington visit so far.
