ShinyHunters claims it compromised services linked to FBIJobs.gov and obtained FBI personnel data; the FBI is investigating and says the breach origin is unknown. A roughly 5,000-record sample reportedly includes three references to “remote operations units.”
The sample reportedly contains names, home addresses, phone numbers, birth dates, Social Security numbers, emergency contacts and job titles; some entries include spouse or family details. Reuters matched details for more than 22 people to credit records and earlier leak datasets, finding some records correspond to real personnel, but this does not verify that they came from FBI systems.
Three sample records reportedly refer to “remote operations units,” a designation pointing to the FBI’s Remote Operations Unit, which develops and deploys investigative hacking tools. The FBI says it is working with vendors to mitigate risk. ShinyHunters reportedly claimed it exploited an Oracle PeopleSoft vulnerability and accessed a larger trove, possibly totaling 2–3 terabytes; the method and the broader dataset’s scope and authenticity remain unconfirmed.
