David Heck was arrested and charged with the rape and murder of Sabrina Kahler, who disappeared in Erie County, Pennsylvania, in June 2002. The attorney general cited grand-jury testimony in announcing charges; Kahler's body has not been found, and the search continues.
The Pennsylvania attorney general's Cold Case Section reopened the case after a referral, bringing it before a grand jury. Heck was Kahler's boyfriend's cousin, and investigators said he invited her swimming on the day she disappeared. Testimony included a fisherman's account of hearing a scream and accounts that Heck had talked about killing a girl; Douglas Heim testified that Heck asked him to help move and bury Kahler's body at Elk Creek Access.
Kahler was declared dead in 2009. Flooding and topographic changes have so far hindered efforts to recover her body from the suspected burial area.
