Near Cuesta Grade, north of San Luis Obispo, the Grade Fire ignited beside Highway 101 Wednesday afternoon. Cal Fire said it had burned 33 acres and remained uncontained; the agency issued an evacuation order for a large area east of the highway, citing an immediate threat to生命.
Cal Fire lists the cause as under investigation. The San Luis Obispo Tribune reported Wednesday that a car fire ignited the blaze; a California Highway Patrol log records a car fire in the area and says the hillside beside the highway caught fire at 1:55 p.m. A 2 p.m. entry described the fire as moving at a “fast pace.”
