Police say Cash Rauscher, 18, fled a Lake Geneva stop over an unbelted passenger and drove into Lake Como. All four occupants swam to a pier; officers helped them out, and two went to hospital. Rauscher faces four felony counts.
Police said an officer saw a passenger hanging out of a window without a seatbelt and tried to stop the car. The driver allegedly sped away, drove the wrong way on a one-way street and ran stop signs before reaching the public boat launch on Schofield Drive. The car ended up about 100 feet from shore; the other two occupants declined further treatment. The department has released dashcam and body-camera footage.
FOX6 reported one count of vehicle operator flee/elude officer and three counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety. Bond was set at $10,000 cash, and Rauscher’s arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 28. The charges are allegations; he has not been convicted. Local reports also listed a citation under Wisconsin’s absolute-sobriety law, but police have released no test result.
