Eury Pérez threw his first career complete game and shutout, allowing one hit and striking out eight with one walk, as Miami beat Atlanta 3-0 Friday in the series opener. Sean Murphy's sixth-inning single was Atlanta's only hit, and a double play erased him.
Atlanta was testing possible postseason roles: Ray Kerr made his first start of the season as an opener and threw three scoreless innings, while Grant Holmes followed with four innings and allowed Joe Mack's solo homer in the seventh. Didier Fuentes surrendered two runs in the eighth, on Heriberto Hernandez's RBI single and Griffin Conine's solo homer.
Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at 4:10 p.m. EDT.
