The NL’s top-seeded Brewers designated 26-year-old right-hander Lyon Richardson for assignment before the playoffs, removing him from the 40-man roster. Another club has seven days to claim him on waivers or trade for him.
Milwaukee had already reached 100 wins and clinched the National League’s top overall seed, securing home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and a bye from the Wild Card Series.
Milwaukee also reinstated right-hander Bryse Wilson from the 15-day injured list, placed first baseman Andrew Vaughn on the 10-day IL with an illness, retroactive to Sept. 22, and recalled outfielder Brandon Lockridge from Triple-A. Richardson appeared in one Brewers game this season, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings; at Triple-A, he went 4-4 with a 4.44 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 75 innings over 40 games. If he clears waivers, he can become a free agent or sign back with Milwaukee’s minor-league system.
