Jeremy Zellner was reelected chair of the Erie County Democratic Committee on Saturday, winning more than 85% of the vote in a three-way contest against County Legislator Jeanne Vinal and Amherst Council Member John Davis at the party’s biennial reorganization meeting.
Four members were elected vice chairs for the first time: Buffalo Common Council Majority Leader Leah Halton-Pope, Amherst Councilman Jack Kavanaugh, West Seneca Democratic Chair Amy Kobler and County Legislature Chair Tim Meyers. Adam Fogel, Board of Elections Commissioner Howard Johnson Jr., Lavonya Lester, Fillmore Common Councilmember Mitch Nowakowski and Amelida Ortiz-Weinmann were reelected vice chairs.
Vinal and Davis challenged Zellner after he lost the Democratic primary for the 61st State Senate District to State Assemblymember Jon Rivera earlier this year. Zellner said the reelection margin was the highest he had received as chair and called it vindication for the committee’s work.
