CNN data chief Harry Enten said 50% of Americans strongly disapprove of President Donald Trump, a record for a president ahead of a midterm election, as the 2026 vote approaches. He called it “record hatred” toward Trump.
Enten compared the figure with strong disapproval of Trump at 45% before the 2018 midterms and of former President George W. Bush at 41% before the 2006 midterms. He said 18% strongly approve of Trump, down from 27% before the 2018 elections; among independents, 56% strongly disapprove and 9% strongly approve.
Multiple recent polls have shown Trump at his lowest approval rating of his second term, as voters voice concerns about the economy, gas prices and the cost of living.
