Elizabeth Holmes, serving an 11-year, three-month sentence for defrauding Theranos investors, is scheduled to transfer from a Texas federal prison camp to a halfway house in Del Valle on Aug. 23, 2027. A new documentary about her is due in theaters in October.
Holmes founded Theranos in 2003 after leaving Stanford. The company claimed its technology could run a wide range of blood tests from a small amount of blood. A jury convicted Holmes in 2022 on four counts related to defrauding investors through false claims about the company's technology, finances and business relationships. The SEC said Holmes and Theranos raised more than $700 million from investors between 2013 and 2015 while making it appear a portable analyzer was commercially ready.
Holmes is held at Federal Prison Camp Bryan, a minimum-security federal prison, and her scheduled release date is Feb. 22, 2030. A24 announced “You Can See Everything,” a documentary made with comedian Nathan Fielder and filmmaker Lance Oppenheim, on Sept. 6; it premiered at Telluride the same day. The film begins 34 days before Holmes reported to prison in 2023 and follows a three-year filmmaking process.
