Netherlands Prime Minister Rob Jetten and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani visited a Manhattan LGBTQ+ center on Thursday, learning about its historic archive and meeting young participants who showed them artwork and zines made through the center’s programs.
Participants’ artwork and zines were added to the archive for long-term preservation. Jetten praised the collection, comparing it with efforts to document LGBTQ+ history in Dutch museum exhibitions and saying such work also shows how much remains to be done worldwide.
Jetten was in New York for the United Nations General Assembly and had visited the Stonewall Inn earlier in the week. Jaylynn Gaston, 19, said the center’s job-readiness resources, health-care guidance and annual summer camp had helped them.
