Diamondbacks designate Jesus Sanchez for assignment after brief stint

Arizona designated Jesus Sanchez for assignment Saturday, after claiming him off waivers from Toronto on Sept. 14. In 16 plate appearances, he had two hits, one walk and five strikeouts; Arizona trails Philadelphia by one game for the final NL Wild Card spot.

Arizona claimed the left-handed hitter to help address its offensive struggles against right-handed pitching. In 99 games with Toronto, Sanchez batted .260/.318/.416 with eight home runs and a .734 OPS; he also had -8 outs above average at the corner outfield spots.
