Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder in the fatal shooting of his wife, Ashley. Prosecutors cite his affair, deleted texts fantasizing about killing her and evidence challenging his intruder account; the gun he said was in his truck was never found.
Flynn told 911 at about 2:30 a.m. on February 16 that he heard a shot while in his daughters’ bedroom, then found Ashley and said someone had broken in and taken his gun. Investigators testified the garage side door showed no signs of forced entry, and a canine handler said he saw no other prints leading away from the home.
Alleigha Botner testified that she and Flynn had a 1.5-year affair and read from more than 100,000 texts; she acknowledged initially lying to the FBI about the relationship. Prosecutors also argued Flynn had financial and family motives, citing his roughly $200,000-a-year job at his father-in-law’s business and his concerns about custody of his daughters. The defense argued that an affair or motive does not prove murder.
