Princess Astrid of Norway died at 94 on Sept. 11; days later, Wilma, her 12-year-old Chihuahua mix, also died, the Royal House said. A Royal House tribute said Wilma was rarely apart from Astrid and often sat on her lap in the princess’s final years.
Astrid adopted Wilma from a rehoming center, as she had her previous dog, Tarzan. The Royal House tribute said dogs had accompanied the princess throughout her life, beginning with a dog her parents gave her on her second birthday.
After Astrid died, Wilma lived with one of her children. The family told USA Today that Wilma also died peacefully, resting on a lap where she was happiest.
