At the UN, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez condemned the US oil blockade, saying US pressure had left over 7,000 containers of food, medicines and medical equipment unable to reach Cuba. Donald Trump said he expected a deal and did not think military force was needed.
Rodríguez said a threat of military force against Cuba persisted and violated international law; he also said Havana remained ready for dialogue with Washington. Recent US sanctions have further worsened Cuba’s years-long economic and energy crisis and humanitarian emergency, the report says.
Rodríguez also said foreign companies were being intimidated into abandoning their Cuban investments and businesses. Washington has indicated it expects economic and political change in Cuba and for its government to distance itself from China and Russia, citing US national security. Trump has also threatened to take over the island.
