Donald Trump faces court setbacks, falling approval and signs of Republican distancing ahead of November’s midterms. At the UN, he threatened to “annihilate” Iran; conservative broadcaster Charlie Sykes warned that a politically weaker Trump could become more dangerous.
The Supreme Court blocked his administration’s attempt to impose new mail-in ballot restrictions for November, and a judge ordered the White House to restore CNN, MS Now and Politico’s access after Trump barred them. Another judge blocked his bid to add his name to the Kennedy Center; the Federal Reserve also defied him on interest rates.
Rick Wilson said some polls put Trump’s approval at 29% and argued voters blame him for the Iran war and higher fuel and grocery prices. In Florida, candidate Byron Donalds removed most Trump references from his campaign website, while Rep. María Elvira Salazar’s ads said immigration enforcement had gone “too far” and Latino voters felt betrayed. The White House rejected the criticism, saying Trump’s agenda was succeeding and citing tax cuts, lower prescription-drug costs, border security and more than a million private-sector jobs. If Democrats win the House next year, they plan investigations into alleged abuses of office.
