Conwy County Council advised the Home Office against placing 12 asylum seekers in two shared houses in Llandudno after assessing local circumstances, community impact and residents’ and asylum seekers’ wellbeing. The Home Office is responsible for accommodation.
The council said it was committed to supporting people seeking sanctuary who have been forced from home by conflict, persecution, violence or humanitarian crises, but could not disclose details of accommodation procured by the Home Office. The Home Office said it aims to close every asylum hotel by the end of this Parliament, moving asylum seekers into alternative accommodation and engaging local authorities and police to minimise effects on surrounding areas.
