Bill Clinton joked that Trump’s proposed Washington-area arch was an “Arc de Triomphe” for drones. He called the fight over adding Trump’s name to the Kennedy Center “majoring in the minors,” arguing the center’s work matters more than the name on it.
Clinton made the remarks at the opening of the Clinton Global Initiative’s annual meeting in New York. Trump has proposed a 250-foot triumphal arch spanning the area between Washington, D.C., and Virginia for the nation’s 250th anniversary. He recently said it would have military uses, including housing drones and providing a facility for snipers.
Trump has pushed to add his name to the Kennedy Center since taking control of its board. A federal judge ruled Congress would need to approve a name change. The center’s board has since voted to close the facility for renovations.
