The Yankees placed reliever Clarke Schmidt on the 15-day injured list with bicep neuritis, making him likely unavailable for next week’s Wild Card Series. Right-hander Bradley Hanner was called up from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his place for now.
Schmidt had recently returned from Tommy John surgery, which kept him on the injured list for most of the regular season. He struck out two and allowed two hits against the Twins, but his planned second outing, Sunday against the Diamondbacks, was halted during bullpen warmups because of bicep soreness.
Schmidt’s absence tightens the Yankees’ bullpen picture for the postseason. The report says Will Warren is expected to be available, Carlos Rodón could be an option in relief if he does not start, and Ryan Weathers’ status remains uncertain.
