Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase said Thursday the NFL fined him for an elbow/first-down gesture after his Week 2 touchdown against Houston, and criticized the penalty. He called for a “superstar” in the NFL Players Association to help players fight such fines.
Chase described the celebration as “literally like a wrestling move” and said he would seek a similar gesture that would not draw a fine. The amount of his fine was not reported. He pointed to Kyle Juszczyk, who was fined for miming a juice drink that the NFL interpreted as an alcohol-drinking gesture. Chase also said he did not think players could tweet about such fines without risking another penalty.
