In Mogi Guaçu, Brazil, Cibele Marchis, 28, and her mother, Maria Elisabete Nogueira, 56, died of cancer in separate hospitals 10 hours apart on Sept. 24 and 25. Their family said Marchis’s father was left without his wife and only child.
Marchis was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer originating in her adrenal gland in 2024; her mother learned she had pancreatic cancer about a year later, according to G1. In an October 2025 social media post, Marchis said she had undergone three surgeries; an infection after the last led to a 20-day intensive care stay, and she was on her eighth chemotherapy cycle.
The family said the women had asked not to be told if the other died, and neither knew of the other’s death. They were buried together in a local cemetery. Their cousin, Rowilson Leandro da Costa, told G1 that returning to an empty home was difficult for their father.
