Strong sea winds topple Weston-super-Mare’s six-storey cardboard tower

Strong sea winds toppled a 20m, six-storey cardboard tower inspired by Weston-super-Mare’s crumbling Birnbeck Pier. It began leaning at about 07:00 BST Sunday and was down by 11:00; around 300 people helped squash it for transport and recycling.

Local people put up the tower in Prince Consort Gardens on Saturday under artist Olivier Grossetête’s direction. Super Culture production head Paula Birtwistle said around 1,000 people had joined the project during the week to learn about the pier and build the structure.
