Christian Yelich will wear the captain’s “C” after the Brewers named him the first official captain in franchise history. Manager Pat Murphy said Yelich sought Robin Yount’s approval first and that the designation changes nothing beyond formally recognizing him.
Yelich joined Milwaukee in 2018 and won the National League MVP award in his first season. He has made three All-Star teams and has 186 home runs and 616 RBIs with the Brewers.
The Brewers had clinched a playoff berth and the NL Central title before Saturday’s game, which they entered with an MLB-leading 101 wins.
