Chris Hansen says A24’s Primetime, with Robert Pattinson playing a fictionalized version of him, departs sharply from his experience investigating predators. He criticized the studio for not consulting him and called the film overly dramatized.
Hansen said the film mixes some real details with what he called “pure fiction.” He acknowledged he was not an objective reviewer because it uses his name, image and likeness, but urged viewers to make up their own minds.
Hansen said he had heard director Lance Oppenheim intended the film as a love letter to him and To Catch a Predator, but called it a “hit piece” and an insult to people doing similar work. He previously declined a private screening, saying A24 required him to sign a “very restrictive agreement” barring legal action against the studio.
