Chris Hansen, former “To Catch a Predator” host, watched “Primetime,” the Robert Pattinson film based on events from his show, and called it “bizarre” and detached from reality. He said he was not objective because the character is him and questioned the film’s purpose.
Before watching, Hansen questioned the film’s motives, said he had no say in the casting and would have preferred Denis Leary for the role. On Aug. 26, he said he was considering legal action, calling the project “sneaky and disingenuous.” “Primetime” opened in theaters Sept. 25.
Hansen said he declined an early screening through distributor A24 after being asked to sign away rights to his name, image, brand and potential legal claims. A source close to the film told Rolling Stone the request was for a standard nondisclosure agreement used to prevent spoilers and protect the studio’s intellectual property. Director Oppenheim said he did not involve Hansen to preserve his own expression of the material.
