Shannon Marie Dillon, 42, was arrested after a Broward Sheriff's Office cruiser, reported stolen, was found nearly 100 miles from its Fort Lauderdale-area headquarters in St. Lucie County. It reportedly reached speeds of up to 100 mph; no crashes or injuries were reported.
The cruiser was reported stolen from the sheriff's office's Fort Lauderdale-area headquarters around 9 p.m. Sept. 22. Dillon faces St. Lucie County charges including grand theft of law-enforcement equipment, unlawful use of a police badge or law-enforcement vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon. Authorities said the weapons charge relates to a department-issued rifle found in the cruiser, not a firearm found on Dillon. She also faces Broward County charges tied to the alleged theft. Her total bond is set at $107,500, and no plea has been reported.
Deputies arrested Dillon near I-95 and Gatlin Boulevard after finding the cruiser abandoned nearby. WPTV reported she was wearing a ballistic vest bearing Broward Sheriff's Office insignia. Florida Highway Patrol, Port St. Lucie police and St. Lucie County deputies helped track the vehicle north. Broward Sheriff's Office has opened an Internal Affairs investigation and has not publicly explained how Dillon allegedly accessed the cruiser.
