An anonymous donor pledged the University of Richmond a record $150 million, its largest gift commitment in nearly 200 years. $50 million will match gifts for endowed scholarships. The university’s $600 million campaign enters its public phase with over $425 million raised.
The $50 million matching program, called the Richmond Affordability Initiative, is intended to expand endowed scholarships for students across financial backgrounds. The university cited middle-income families who may qualify for little need-based aid but still struggle to cover the full cost of college.
Accelerate Richmond's priorities are access and affordability, academic excellence, purposeful lives and athletics. Plans include faculty endowments; expanded undergraduate advising, career preparation and hands-on learning; and athletic facilities, scholarships and endowments for the university's 17 Division I programs.
