A Reddit user's map estimates that $20 of gas now gets a driver 29 fewer miles in Los Angeles than it did on Feb. 27, using gas prices, the road network and assumed fuel economy of 28 mpg. That's roughly the distance from downtown Los Angeles to Long Beach.
State figures cited by the New York Post put California regular gasoline at an average $6.08 per gallon after a 19-cent rise in one week, up $1.43 over the year. Diesel was at a record $8.35 per gallon, $3.18 higher. GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan told KRON4 that relief could come at the end of October, when California switches to winter-blend gasoline, but said Middle East tensions could push prices higher before then.
