Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said stabilizing 737 MAX output at 47 aircraft a month is taking longer than expected, prompting a share selloff. Bank of America called the reaction excessive; reports say slower production could leave 2026 free cash flow near $2 billion, below some ін?
Boeing aims to raise 737 MAX production to 52 aircraft a month next year; 787 output remains at eight a month. The company also reiterated that certification of the long-delayed 737-10 could come soon. The model represents roughly 30% of the 737 MAX order book.
Separately, the FAA finalized an airworthiness directive covering certain 737 MAX aircraft. Similarities to older 737 models where cracks were reported near the forward galley door could make the MAX susceptible to the same condition. Hedge funds holding Boeing fell from 99 at the end of Q1 2026 to 90 at the end of Q2; short interest was 1.9% of the float as of Aug. 14, 2026.
