In “Behind the Castle Walls,” former Disney CEO Bob Chapek says Bob Iger pursued a three-year campaign to oust him. Disney’s board ousted Chapek in November 2022; representatives for Iger and Disney declined to comment on the claims.
The 272-page memoir, co-written with Don Yaeger, is due Sept. 29. On Florida’s 2022 Parental Rights in Education Act, Chapek says he favored working behind the scenes with lawmakers to soften the measure. He says Iger’s public criticism made that harder; messages and meetings later helped Chapek understand how painful Disney’s silence had been.
Chapek defends raising Disney parks’ annual-pass prices, writing that Disneyland’s passholder count fell from 1.1 million to 1 million after the first increase, while revenue rose. He says Iger criticized park prices after Chapek left, then raised them several times over the next two years.
