Blake Snell used Friday’s Dodgers-Giants broadcast to call himself Tarik Skubal’s “big bro,” pushing back on Skubal’s running joke that Snell is the younger one. Snell turns 34 in December; Skubal is 29.
Skubal had called Snell his little brother during the Dodgers’ Sept. 17 celebration after they clinched the NL West. The two have continued the joke with clubhouse pranks and Step Brothers-inspired exchanges online since Los Angeles acquired Skubal from Detroit at the trade deadline.
Skubal is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason and is 4-2 with a 2.95 ERA in nine starts since the trade. Dodgers fans have read his comfort in the clubhouse as a possible sign he may want to stay. Snell was working his way back after leaving a start against Cincinnati with left-groin tightness; both were expected to anchor the postseason rotation, with Tyler Glasnow also in the mix if healthy.
