Black Health Matters now uses “population health,” not “health equity,” in pharma sponsorship proposals, CEO Roslyn Young-Daniels says. She says pharma support is waning amid the Trump administration’s anti-DEI policies; BHM’s mission is unchanged.

A recent BHM Summit at New York City’s Riverside Church drew more than 2,000 attendees and received support from Pfizer, Merck, AstraZeneca, Novo and eight other pharma companies. Young-Daniels said local hospital and community-group support has not waned; at the event, Memorial Sloan Kettering provided free home colorectal-screening kits and Mount Sinai conducted on-site prostate cancer testing.

Young-Daniels said 450,000 people in New York State are losing subsidies and that people who had put off health matters now recognize their ability to pay is compromised. Founded in 2012, BHM has held about 600 events, mainly focused on preventive care, and plans to increase its annual Summits from three to seven next year, citing increased demand.
