The FBI said the source of the claimed compromise was still undetermined—whether a third-party provider or its own enterprise—and that it was working with FBIJobs.gov providers to mitigate risks. It was still assessing the extent and what information may have been compromised.
The BBC reporter said hackers contacted him and he saw samples of the stolen fitness-for-work exams. 404 Media earlier reported that ShinyHunters shared a list of 5,000 alleged FBI officials; the group had not publicly released the data, but 404 Media co-founder Joseph Cox said journalists were given a sizable sample.
