Kent Police say a computer-generated image released in September of a woman seen in distress at Baby April’s grave prompted 25 new leads in two weeks. The newborn was found dead at Singleton Lake, Ashford, on 3 April 1995; detectives believe she died of asphyxiation.
Baby April was named for the month she was found. Police have not established her identity or who her parents were; she was thought to have been born between 25 March and 3 April 1995 and weighed 7lb. The current review began in 2025, and a 2011 attempt to use new DNA technology was unsuccessful. Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber said police systems now contain 30 years of additional DNA information and investigators can examine other familial DNA.
