Apple told 9to5Mac an iOS 27 update is in the works to fix a Face ID glitch on iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models. 9to5Mac reports that a failed attempt to unlock a protected app can freeze a phone and trigger a reboot; Apple says the update should arrive early next week.
9to5Mac says the glitch appears when Face ID is used to open a protected app, such as Passwords or private Safari tabs; it does not appear to trigger directly from the lock screen. After an initial authentication failure, tapping “Try Face ID Again” may stop touch input, followed by a reboot to the lock screen.
Apple did not disclose how widespread the issue is. The article projects a Sept. 28 or 29 release and expects the update to be limited to iPhone 18 Pro models; Apple’s stated timing was only “early next week.”
