Payments have begun in Oracle’s $115 million data-privacy settlement, with each class member receiving $37.42. Initial distributions started Sept. 21 via Zelle, Venmo, direct deposit or prepaid debit cards; the settlement website says recipients were notified by email.
The federal case, Katz-Lacabe et al. v. Oracle America, Inc., was filed in Northern California. Plaintiffs alleged Oracle improperly captured, compiled and sold people’s online and offline data to third parties without consent; Oracle denied wrongdoing. The settlement closes the case.
Court filings also alleged that Oracle’s data-broker network tracked people in real time and recorded their personal information indefinitely, involving hundreds of millions of people.
