Annie Potts, 73, says injuries from a 1973 car crash led to about 26 surgeries and shifted her from an intended musical-theater career to screen acting. In an interview with Woman's World, she said she remains grateful for her career and is not ready to retire.
Potts said the crash severely damaged both legs, with injuries affecting her from the waist down. She recently underwent her third knee replacement on the same knee and joked that repeated operations made her feel like Humpty Dumpty.
Potts had imagined a musical-theater career but turned to screen acting after the crash; her credits include Designing Women and Ghostbusters. She made her Broadway debut at 56 in 2009, replacing Hope Davis in God of Carnage.
