Donald Trump posted a photo with Xi Jinping at Joint Base Andrews on Truth Social Sept. 24; it shows him saluting, unlike event photos. An AI expert told PEOPLE it was “highly likely” the Trump administration used AI, at least in part, to create the image.
Other arrival photos show Trump ducking during the flyover and wearing gloves on both hands; the posted image shows him saluting with his left hand bare. It also appears to change Chief of Protocol Monica Crowley's shoes and omit red markings visible on Xi's plane. Dr. Joe Ondrak, who reviewed the images for PEOPLE, said AI likely hallucinated details while retouching the original.
