Agility Robotics says its Digit 5 humanoid is designed to stop, step aside or sit when sensors detect a nearby person. Agility's demo footage shows it flinch and kneel as someone approaches; the robot is intended for workplaces such as warehouses.
CTO Pras Velagapudi told Ars Technica that Digit 5's safe-motion system chooses different responses based on the kind of human presence it detects. Futurism reported that the robot uses Nvidia's Thor IGX chip for real-time human detection and can repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds.
Agility says Digit 5 runs for 90 minutes per battery and recharges in nine minutes, which the company says enables more than 20 hours of productive work in a 24-hour day. Separately, Agility says its robots are already used in commercial operations by Amazon and Toyota.
