Nadiya Santiago, 11, died by suicide the day after accidentally posting a TikTok dance video, her mother says. After her death, her mother says she learned classmates had bullied her for months; a school district investigation is ongoing.
Nadiya’s mother, Deanna Gresko, says a friend told her after the death that a group of students had picked on Nadiya for months and that Nadiya and friends had told teachers and the principal. Gresko says the school never contacted her. The district said it was equally concerned, takes the matter seriously and is conducting an investigation under New York’s Dignity for All Students Act.
