Russian airline Yakutia suspended all local flights this week after grounding its only remaining DHC-8 turboprop over a broken right landing-gear strut; the airline is awaiting a replacement. The halt limits air service in the remote Sakha republic.
Ust-Nera Airport also suspended operations after runway deterioration made takeoffs and landings unsafe. Before the war, Yakutia operated as many as 55 routes in Russia and to some international destinations; access to foreign parts and a lack of domestic aircraft suitable for unpaved runways now constrain service in Sakha.
At the start of 2025, Yakutia was among 30 small and midsize Russian airlines reported to be at a “burnout point” and at immediate risk of bankruptcy amid parts shortages and passenger numbers below pre-invasion levels. In July 2026, regional carrier Izhavia lost its air operator certificate after failing a safety audit over broken or uncertified aircraft parts.
