The Pentagon database added 37 U.S. troops to its Iran-conflict wounded count this week, bringing it to 861: 29 Navy sailors and eight Marines. Officials have not said when or how they were injured; no recent attack or incident has been announced to explain the increase.
A Navy official told The Washington Post that all 29 sailors have returned to duty but did not provide details about when or how they were injured. The Navy and Marine Corps referred further questions to U.S. Central Command, which declined to comment; Pentagon spokespeople did not respond to requests for comment.
More than half of the 861 are classified under “Overseas Operations,” a designation for casualties recorded after the failed July ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran. Earlier casualties were recorded under “Operation Epic Fury.” Defense officials have previously cautioned that database additions can be delayed, particularly for concussions or brain injuries whose symptoms may take time to appear.
