Twelve teenagers were injured when two groups exchanged words, displayed firearms and shot at one another during a birthday gathering at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon, Ga., early Sept. 27, authorities said. Two victims were in critical but stable condition.
Deputies were called to the skatepark area at 12:06 a.m. after reports of gunfire. Sheriff David Davis said the party was for a girl turning 18; the group reconvened at the park after an Airbnb owner in Jones County asked them to leave over concerns about activities at the party.
No arrests had been made, and the investigation remained active. Authorities said seven vehicles were taken to a crime lab—four that transported victims to the hospital and three left at the park—and investigators interviewed 10 witnesses. The hospital emergency room was placed on lockdown as relatives, friends and many vehicles arrived.
